When it comes to lighting, sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest impact. One such innovation is low voltage lighting, a technology that not only brightens up spaces but also offers a myriad of benefits.
However, equipping an antler chandelier with low voltage fixtures is not as easy as you would think. In this blog, we’ll delve into what low voltage lighting is, how our company seamlessly integrates it into unique chandeliers, and the overall advantages of making the switch.
What is Low Voltage Lighting?
What is the difference between low and standard home voltage lighting? While standard home voltage lighting operates at 120 volts, low voltage lighting runs on a much safer 12-24 volts. This reduction in voltage minimizes electrical hazards and overall electricity use, making low voltage lighting ideal for making your home safe and ecofriendly.
Low voltage lighting fixtures are typically not subject to Underwriter Laboratories (UL) Listing, as long as the transformer is UL listed, all components behind it are safe at under 30 volts. When developing new custom lighting fixtures, it is difficult to acquire a UL listing, as it is intended for mass production of a single design. But now…..
Under the NEC, article 411 describes requirements for lighting systems operating under 30 volts or under connected to a Class 2 (less than 100W) power source. Specifically, article 411 says:
Lighting systems operating at 30 volts or less shall comply with ……
411.3(B) Assembly of Listed Parts. A lighting system assembled from the following listed parts shall be permitted:
(1) Low-voltage luminaires
(2) Low-voltage luminaire power supply
(3) Class 2 power supply
(4) Low-voltage luminaire fittings
(5) Cord (secondary circuit) for which the luminaires and power supply are listed for use
(6) Cable, conductors in conduit, or other fixed wiring method for the secondary circuit
The Peak Antler Company has always adhered to all UL standards by using the approved components and testing practices recommended by Underwriters Laboratories. Now we can offer even more safe and hassle free options by providing a Low Voltage upgrade.
Our Approach to Low Voltage Lighting
All our fixtures are upgradable to low voltage, ensuring seamless integration into any setting. Additionally, our UL listed damp location Class 2 transformers come with a 5-year warranty, guaranteeing reliability and peace of mind. Our fixtures can be tied into existing whole home low voltage systems or a designed system for just the fixture itself to be low voltage.
There is no need to sacrifice style for efficiency, so we ensure low voltage antler chandeliers are both stunning and seamless to install. With our custom installation canopy, transformers are discreetly hidden in the ceiling or mounting plate, maintaining the aesthetic integrity of your space.
Regardless if you have a low or standard voltage system in your home, our fixtures can easily fit into your existing setup. Consultations with our experts help ensure every antler chandelier is designed perfectly for your home and allow for easy installation upon delivery.
Benefits of Low Voltage Lighting
From improved safety, enhanced illumination, and a longer life span, many are making the switch to low voltage chandeliers. Here are a few reasons to consider incorporating a low voltage system into your custom antler chandelier:
Enhanced Safety:
Low voltage lighting drastically reduces electrical hazards, making it safer for both indoor and outdoor use. The reduced risks also make low voltage lights safer for homes with kids and pets. Installation is also safer and more straightforward due to the lower voltages involved.
Energy Efficiency:
Low voltage lighting consumes significantly less electricity than traditional incandescent and halogen bulbs, leading to substantial energy savings and lower utility bills.
Longevity:
Quality low voltage bulbs last 20,000 to 50,000 hours, nearly 50 times more than incandescents. This extended lifespan means fewer replacements, lowering maintenance needs.
Improved Light Quality:
Low voltage lighting provides focused, uniform illumination without glare, enhancing visibility and comfort. We can now maintain the same amount of lighting (lumens) as incandescents and keep our fixtures dimmable with a standard wall dimmer.
Eco-Friendly:
By utilizing energy-efficient LED bulbs, low voltage lighting reduces electricity consumption and carbon footprint, and may qualify for utility rebates & tax incentives.
Dimmability:
Most low voltage lighting fixtures come with built-in dimming capabilities, allowing for customizable illumination and further energy savings.
At Peak Antler, we’re proud to offer innovative lighting solutions that elevate spaces to new heights of sophistication and sustainability. For those seeking sustainable, high-efficiency, and cost-effective lighting solutions, low voltage options are undoubtedly the way forward.
